I'm not sure what my grandmother (and great-grandmother) were talking about when they said there's nothing like the smell of fresh laundry off the line. Yuck! Honestly I think it just smells 'outdoorsy'...and I'm not talking about 'kissed by the sun'. I'm also not really into the hard and stiff as cardboard feel that you get from it either...I really like soft nice smelling towels...and sheets...and shirts...and...
So, I've been working on trying to figure out the best way to get my laundry dried...since my dryer is also my washer, and you can only dry 1/2 a load at a time (which takes 80 mins. at least)...plus, now that it's warmed up, I can't dry anything on the radiators. So, after 9 months here I've finally figured it out. I put all my laundry on the line and then right at the end when it's nearly dry I bring it in and pop it in the dryer for 10-15 mins. with a dryer sheet. Voila...dry, soft, and nice smelling laundry. I love it!
The funny part about it is that after I got this idea I had to look for dryer sheets. I went to Tesco and couldn't find them at first. I panicked because I realized that no one here in England uses a dryer much. Finally I found a few little boxes on the very bottom of a shelf. There was Bounce, which was outrageously expensive, and Tesco brand...that's it! Not 25 different kinds, smells, sizes, etc. But, I've found them and they work. Hallelujah!
On a bit of a side note: I laughed today as I was putting the wash up on the line when I realized there was a sign at how well we've settled into our life in England -- I hung all of our undies on the line! :)

Undies huh! That's a big step! Glad you solved the issue - and I might just have to send you some pretty smelling dryer sheets!
Hey Blackwells!
I have been reading your blog for several months and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. But after the laundry blog I had to let you know that I laughed out loud. Keep posting and I'll keep reading.

Even my mom never hung out our "underwears" as I love to call them. :) I think we'd be up for some new ones before we hung our drawers on the line for the neighborhood to see. ;)
I laughed when I realized that all these English people were probably raising their eyebrows more when we didn't hang anything on the line...'what are those Americans wearing underneath???' :)
I know you'll breathe a sigh of relief 'cause I'm not even going to comment! As much as I want to. :) But it is VERY FUNNY!!!
