Half-term holiday -- Butterfly House

We definitely had an animal theme going on for our break. Elam found a brochure for Butterfly House at the hotel so we decided we would check it out on our last day before heading home. They had a tropical house that had butterflies, turtles, birds, and caged snakes and spiders. Outside there were more animals. We saw marmosets, parrots, a skunk, goats, sheep, pigs, a llama, a turkey, chickens, peacocks.

Silas was really excited about seeing the turtles -- he claims he's never seen *real* turtles before though I know several occasions that he has. Elam really enjoyed standing next to the parrots' cage trying to get them to talk. And they both loved getting to handle the animals -- a tawny owl and a centipede. Elam absolutely loved the parrots.

We love our North American friends! :)

Silas was SOOO excited to see these turtles.

Elam is fascinated with carniverous plants, so he was thrilled to see these pitcher plants. But when he realized butterflies were flying all around he thought it might be a bit cruel to have the plants in the tropical house.
