As a parent, it's pretty exciting...

when your 3 year old learns to write a new word all by himself. Even if it is on the bottom of his foot! Silas gave a big, long explanation the other day about his friend Regin getting to have pictures drawn on her hands and feet (her mom did that with them once when she was watching Silas). After this discourse he finally sat down and showed us the bottom of his foot. He was really proud of himself for writing 'Tom' (from the Tom and Jerry cartoon). It says 'Silas' above that.

The following day we found another 'Silas' written on his thigh. When we told him that he needed to stop writing on himself, he told us that Annie had done it. (Remember Annie? She gets blamed for a lot of things.) So, then we had a discussion about telling the truth. Parenting is fun! :)

A few months ago, Caleb went through a phase of writing his name all over the leather seats of our van, on the dashboard of his dad's car, etc. He was learning to write in cursive and was "practicing." Unlike Silas, he couldn't figure out a way to blame anyone else because it was, after all, his name.
