E-dating
The older Elam gets the more I realize that it's harder to carve out time alone with him. We do play loads of games at home when he's not at school, reading books, or playing with friends, but somehow it's not the same as getting out to do something together. Since I work weekends it also makes it difficult to manage something like that when he does have larger chunks of freetime. So, I decided to seize the moment this morning. E's school was on strike today (perhaps we'll discuss the British phenomena of letting everyone know you are going to strike on a particular day about 1 month ahead, and strike only for 1 day, and then still allow nursery children and Year 6 children that are prepping for their standardized test come to school in another post...or perhaps not). So, Silas was off to nursery this morning but E wasn't. So, I took him *out* to a little coffee shop down the street from our house. I ordered a large mocha and chocolate shortbread for myself, and E chose a large hot chocolate (with whipped cream) and piece of lemon cake. I seriously wish I had the camera with me the moment he saw his massive hot chocolate slopping over the side of his cup with the cream piled on the top...his eyes were seriously bugging out of his head. The fun continued when the lady served up the cake. It was possibly the biggest piece of cake I have ever seen. You could see him enjoying every moment of it. He started to slow down about 2/3 through the cake and I reminded him that if he is full that he doesn't have to eat it all. We then noticed that there were white chocolate shavings on the outer edge of the cake, so he started picking at those. Then he looked at me and said, 'I really better stop, Mom.' After a brief pause he looked at me and said, 'It's just sooo tempting though. It's like the cake is the devil and I'm Jesus!' Well, that's one way to look at it. :)

So fun. I'm glad you guys got some time together. & I'm especially glad it involved chocolate.
Gotta love those dates -- especially when they involve chocolate! Glad you can carve out some individual time with each of the boys...makes me wish I were there...love, mom
oh my gosh. that made me laugh out loud! plus, the cake sounds really good right now but because I'm so hungry...I might have given into the devil and kept eating until it was gone. I should try to take after elam in this case!
I love it! I feel the same way when I'm trying to diet and am faced with cake! Sounds like a great mom/son moment too - good thinking mom :)
ditto what pinklady said!
