We celebrated Christmas a little differently this year. Traditions are good but it's also nice to mix things up a bit. Our minister and her family invited us to their house for Christmas dinner. We decided that we ought to attend the Chiristmas morning service and not just show up for dinner. ;) It really is much more traditional here to attend church on both Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. Alison, our minister, invited the boys to light the advent candles on Christmas morning. When we were walking up to the front she commented that this was the first Christmas morning service that the Blackwells have ever attended. Everyone clapped and I suspect that they thought they were welcoming in a heathen family to church. :) She then went on to explain that it isn't traditional in the States to attend church on Christmas morning. It was rather funny.
Anyway, we did wake up at 7 to open stockings and most presents before heading to church. We packed a sack some gifts to open at the minister's house as well.
So, here's Christmas morning...

We always went to church on Christmas morning! But then... we also went to church at both 9am and 6pm EVERY Sunday, which Josh tells me is not typical. Leave it to the Calvinist Dutch immigrants to be able to keep such a strict schedule.
