Special Day for Mum

I'm not 'just 30' anymore...I'm now in my 'early 30s'. I haven't figured out what that means to me yet. But I know having a 7 year old actually makes me feel older than me being 31 now.

My birthday was last Thursday and it was a great day. Compared to a day of househunting in a brand new country last year, this day was far superior. I woke at 8 (!) to a very quiet house. When I came downstairs, Elam met me at the bottom and told me I was supposed to go back to bed to have breakfast. I asked if I could have 'breakfast on the couch' since I had already made the bed. :) My dear hubby (who, please remember, doesn't cook) and 2 boys made me toast with Nutella on it. Honestly, anything with Nutella for breakfast is awesome (imho)...so we'll just forget the cooked English breakfast. :) Oh yeah, there were candles on the toast and a birthday serenade. Very nice!

Elam was in the midst of a football camp, so we had a lovely older couple from our church watch Silas while Ben and I went out on a date!!! Dates come way too seldom in our house...so it was really great to get out sans kiddos. Since we have a car at the moment (thanks to our pastor and family who are on holiday), we decided to head up to Tynemouth for lunch and the afternoon. We ate at a local pub there and then walked around the castle and priory. It turned out to be a gorgeous day (without any rain!)...really perfect!

We met a new American couple that are starting at Durham University this fall. We had them over for dinner -- taco soup! It was nice to get to know them a bit...we're looking forward to getting to know them better and meet several other couples in the next month or so as people begin their journey here.

You have to note, in the slideshow below, the card that the boys gave me...it's addressed to 'Mum'.

I also noticed the one raised eyebrow on your likeness -- very lifelike! Thanx for sharing the pictures -- you and Ben look very content / happy. Wonderful present for those of us back in the states.

Happy birthday!! That sounds like so much fun. I know it's hard to date post-kids. It's funny, once I turned 31, I always have to stop and think, now, how old am I? Oh yeah, 31...

Just think, how much your lives are forever changed and influenced by this whole experience. What fun! And to be "proxied" into it all is just great!

Now don't forget, keep your sights set on "Durham" NC. That way the culture shock will be minimized when you return! :)

(YOUR Mum will luv that one!!!)
