Well, we've officially been in the UK for 1 year. Yep, we left Dallas on July 31st last year and arrived here on August 1st. I would say, for the most part, that we are completely settled here and that we all think of our place here as 'home'.
The other night at dinner we all talked about what we liked best about living here -- in this house, in Durham, in England. Thought I would share...
Silas: school, toys, the back garden (that's the backyard), ice lollies (popsicles)
Elam: exploring England, our house, school, Haribo sweets, Tiger bread, baguettes, living close to friends
Ben: no need for AC in the summer, slower pace of life, having a garden (still means backyard) for the boys to play, baguettes
Heather: a more environmentally conscious lifestyle (walking and using public transportation, composting and recycling, reusing our carrier bags for shopping), proximity of everything we need, Tiger bread, clementines year-round (thanks to living relatively close to Spain), our electric kettle, biscuits.

Yes, I agree with you on most of these! Let's give God some praise for the electric kettle!!! my fav. appliance EVER.
I know...I love boiling the water in there and then pouring it into my pot when I make pasta or something. I will definitely have to get one whenever we return to the States. I wonder where they even sell them though???
Funny ... Doug just purchased an electric kettle while we were in Charleston ... at Walmart. It doesn't look at all like the one you linked to but more like a teapot you'd use on the stove here.
I totally agree about the Tiger bread! Yummy. We have not gotten on the electric kettle train yet, but maybe some day! Hope you are well :).

After reading all the comments it sounds like we need to invest in an electric kettle as well as some Tiger bread!
The thing I liked most about visiting in Europe was how everyone walked everywhere. I'm envious of your new lifestyle!
