It's hard to believe that we are already doing fall holidays again -- American and British. We celebrated Halloween last week and then last night was Bonfire Night. Last year we went to the fireworks show that the local police and fire dept. put on...this year we decided to stay home. Ben studied late last night, so it was just me and the boys. We ate by candlelight and watched a great fireworks show out our back door...just like last year. After dinner we popped over to one of our neighbors house -- a pair of English sisters that have lived on the next street for 40+ years. One of them had told me that they like the kids to come around on Bonfire Night -- just to say 'hi', I suppose. We did, and they had a little 'bag of silver' (5p and 10p coins) for the boys. I found out they had that especially for E and Sy because normally they give out a bag of 'coppers' (1p and 2 p coins) to anyone that comes by for Halloween or Bonfire Night. After our little chat, we came home and attempted to do a few sparklers. We gave up after 1 a piece since it was so windy and it took 5 or more mins. to light each one. Maybe we'll have another go at those tonight when Ben is home.
