Snack Attack

I saw a great idea in a Family Fun magazine that I thought I would try out. I made a snack chart for the boys and myself. (Ben was feeling a bit left out when he saw it until we told him that he is at work until dinnertime, so it wasn't really necessary for him to have a slot. ) In each slot are a variety of snack options with examples of each (ex: Protein -- cheese, nuts, peanut butter). When you get your snack, you "spend" that card and move it to the empty slot. The idea is to eat of variety of things and cut down on the whining when you tell them they can't have another sugary snack -- they see all the options for themselves.

I showed the chart to Elam when we came home yesterday. He was soooo excited, he proceeded to spend 3 of his snack cards from 5pm til bedtime at 8pm with a full plate of dinner thrown in there. He finally gave up during the middle of his apple. Hopefully the novelty will wear off a bit...and we won't be snacking throughout the entire day. :)

OK, Heather, I need you to send me the list for the various snack groups...I'm definitely snacking too much in the "fun" category when Ra's not here -- Chocolate, of course!
