Well...we had our first unscheduled day off of school. Yesterday we had a very "Texas-sized" rainstorm. (They're mostly accustomed to lighter drizzles here.) It only rained really hard for about 20-30 mins. but we soon received a call that school would be closed today due to flooding issues. They are having construction done at the moment, so I chalked it up to that. We found out from other parents that this happens a few times a year though-- where a heavy storm will cancel school for the following day or two.
We woke to absolutely beautiful weather today (t-shirt and shorts weather), so we made a family day out of it. We walked to another library branch that is a bit closer to our house (~20 min. walk) and spent awhile there. The libraries here are very kid friendly. They have coloring pages out for the kids with markers or crayons and usually some blocks for littler ones to play with. This one today also had a 100 pc. jigsaw that Silas and I worked on for a bit. We finished up there and ran a few errands. E found a remote controlled airplane that he decided to spend the last of his birthday money on. We then had friends over for tea and playtime. All in all a very nice day off.
***Ben and E just left to ride their bikes to a nearby park to find an open field to fly the plane.(You aren't allowed to go on the school's field when school is out -- they lock the grounds up tight.)
