When we picked up Grammy last week from Edinburgh, we took the time to do a little sight seeing while we had a car. Edinburgh is about 3 hours north of Durham, so we took off a early on Wednesday to meet her plane. Our Edinburgh airport experience was much more peaceful this time since we didn't have 100 bags to move around. Anyhow, we were very happy to see Grammy. While in Edinburgh we drove by the castle and several other very old looking buildings--it's the capital of Scotland. It was very impressive.

Edinburgh Castle -- on a very cloudy day
On the way home, we also stopped at Alnwick Castle and Gardens (pronounced: An-ik). We only had time to make it through the Garden part before we ran out of gas. The water fountains were very cool. The boys particularly liked the large Tree House with its rope bridges. Elam also liked the bamboo labyrinth and the poison garden. The castle was used in the Harry Potter movies because of it's classic medieval look.
The Alnwick Garden Tree House -- We got to eat lunch at a cafe inside there. There were trees growing right through the restaurant.
