Mr. Responsibility

So, after the holidays it actually hit me that our littlest is 4 years old! Incredible, really. Part of what we did when E was 4 was start him on regular chores and getting an allowance. Ben and I talked it over and figured Sy was ready to follow suit. His chores are now setting the table for dinner, putting away the clean silverware from the dishwasher, and getting dressed in the mornings all by himself (I slipped that one in because it was starting to become a chore for me each morning when he was tired). For that he gets 50 pence each Sunday -- we've been at it for 2 weeks now. I really think I have the bargain here!

Today I unloaded the dishwasher when he was at school and set the basket of sliverware on the counter next to the silverware drawer. After he had a few minutes to wind down from coming home, I told him he needed to do his chore. He gave a bit of a sigh and said, 'This is SO BORING...why do I have to do EVERYTHING!' I just had to smile because I've had that exact same thought on many a day! :)

I'm so glad you posted this. It seems that Sam is taking more responsibility now and I've been wondering how to continue to motivate him in that area. I love the "dress himself" thing too because sometimes mine is just too lazy or it takes forever as he gets so distracted. And, since Z is growing so much ... we need to challenge S to do the same in his own way. I need to talk to Doug. :)

Uhm.....I'm thinking. If I give Eli an allowance, perhaps he will pick up his toys at the end of the day. :)

Funny- I feel that way too...boring! All I do is unload, load, sweep, mop, etc.
