Most of the coast line is cliffs because it sits about 100-200 feet above sea level. We spent the pre-lunch part of the trip down on the beach--very rocky and then a bit of sand where the water is. For lunch Ben got real fish and chips, Heather got sausage (battered and deep fried) and chips, and the boys chicken and chips. After lunch we checked out the harbor.
The water is quite cold, about like the northern Pacific coast, but Elam and Silas took the opportunity to run around in it and explore the beach.

We found a starfish, which Elam poked with his finger but Silas quickly picked up to examine.

When coal mining played a large part of the north east's economy, Seaham harbor was used for a bit of shipping. But now, it seems to be used sparsely. Here's the lighthouse at the harbor entrance.
