Dodging Poo

I got tickled this morning as the 4 of us made a Tesco run. Running to Tesco literally means just walking 2 blocks and has become part of our everyday (or every other day at least) life here. So...the funny part is that everytime we take a trip there (and back) there is the inevitable "Watch out!" or more to the point "Poo!" (usually 2 or 3 times in the 2 blocks). Dogs apparently do their business anywhere they like here and as most front gardens are fenced in, they choose to use the sidewalks -- and the owners obviously don't clean it up (even though we spot trash cans specifically for these special deposits all through the city).

What is even more interesting is that Ben and I read that Durham is up for the cleanest city of the nation. Now I should also note that there is more than poo on the sidewalks...there is litter of all kinds (you normally don't have to dodge that though). So...it makes you wonder what the other cities look like?!?!?
